Marketing the Smut (Or, how to sell your crap)

-Blurbs (How to craft mouth-watering, irresistible descriptions)

This little, tiny section is what will be one of the strongest marketing points for your book. It should be no longer than several paragraphs and generally just a few sentences.

We're writing erotica here, and short smut at that, so there shouldn't be much of a plot to spend days talking about.

You want to focus on hot, sexy, eye-catching words and phrases.

Hard and without protection...

Taken for the first time...

Virgin girl discovers the pleasures of sexual delight...

Things of this nature. You can be quite graphic, but not overly so. At least not on amazon. Try to leave out all the hardcore lingo. FUCKED THAT VIRGIN CUNT UP THE ASS AND CHOKED BY HER DADDY! – While that might sound like an instant classic, it is liable to get you filtered or outright BANNED.

So use common sense here. Try to be like a 'real' writer and tone it down. Give the illusion of sex, the hinting of seduction and carnal pleasures.

Imagine you're the award-winning chef who is trying to describe his food. He wants to make it sound delicious and tasty so the entire audience will rush out and buy it. Make it mouth-watering and enticing. Give it that tempting bit of spice.

On the other side of the token, try not to be too covert or secretive. Don't make people think too much. Remember they move to the path of least resistance. You might have a home run description of your book, yet it doesn't sound like a sex-story in the least. Probably not a good idea.

Try using ones like this:

When young and untouched Ava returns home from college for the summer – she learns that her mom's new boyfriend, a strong and sexy man, has just moved in. However, when the new man of the house overhears Ava on the phone telling her friend that she has remained a virgin for her first 19 years of life... she discovers just how far he is willing to go in order to be her first, hard and without protection...

Basic crap like that. It doesn't need to be perfect or wonderful – only just enough to entice a horny housewife or two to click the BUY NOW button.

The best advice here is to look at a number of the top-selling books in your genre of choice, and model your descriptions after theirs. You will often find that there is very little detail given at all. Most are mainly a brief teasing paragraph or two (just as it should be).

Your job is to fill those words full of LUSTY keywords and SEXY descriptions. Think like a customer for a moment – imagine what kind of details and eye-catching lingo you want to see. What is going to get you turned on? Virgin girl next door... muscular man of the house... horny housewife... sexy, powerful boss...

Don't get caught up in giving away the story. You aren't selling a plot line here –
